OST's 2010-2011 Annual Report to the Legislature
OST is thrilled to welcome our 2012 CA Sea Grant Fellow, Hayley Zemel
World View column in Nature by our own Dr. Ryan Meyer on finding the true value of US climate science
Held January 11, this workshop focused on novel approaches to responding to HAB events along the west coast.
OST's Board Meeting is scheduled to be held March 29, 2012 in Oakland, CA.
The last decade has seen a surge in calls for better integration of the best available scientific information into coastal and marine management. Yet despite this ever-growing chorus of support for science informed decision-making, incorporating science into the policy process is no simple matter. Scientists and policy-makers often run into trouble collaborating harmoniously because they are enmeshed in disparate worlds that operate with fundamentally different time scales, processes, and even languages.
California Ocean Science Trust is expert at living in and understanding both of these worlds. Carefully, yet boldly, we are building a bridge constructed of our independence, integrity, experience, and knowledge that links science and policy in ways that result in better ocean management for California. This is what we call Science Integration.
