Central Coast Region

The MLPA Central Coast Region includes all state waters along the California coastline from Pigeon Point to Point Conception. MPAs for this region were designated by the California Fish and Game Commission on April 13, 2007, and took effect on September 21, 2007.

Monitoring planning for this region was completed prior to the creation of the MPA Monitoring Enterprise. The California Ocean Protection Council has provided $4M to support collection of baseline data for the Central Coast MPAs. The data collection has been completed, and reports are pending.

The MPA Monitoring Enterprise will be working with researchers, stakeholders, resource managers, decision-makers and others to develop a baseline and initial monitoring report for the Central Coast MPAs. This will be developed prior to the first five-year review of this region’s MPAs, which is expected to occur in 2012.
